The flow of the river never ceases,
And the water never stays the same.
Bubbles float on the surface of pools,
Bursting, re-forming, never lingering.
They're like the people in this world and their dwellings.
ゆく河(かは)の流(なが)れは絶(た)えずして、
しかも、もとの水(みづ)にあらず。
淀(よど)みに浮(う)かぶうたかたは、
かつ消(き)えかつ結(むす)びて、
久(ひさ)しくとどまりたる例(ためし)なし。
世(よ)の中(なか)にある人(ひと)と栖(すみか)と、
またかくのごとし。
