Terms of Service

last updated July 1, 2026

Tegaki Tuesday is a free, community-run handwriting challenge site, operated by me, Elnu. By using the website or the Discord bot (字ちゃん), you agree to these terms.

Your account

You sign in with Discord, and submissions go through the Discord bot on participating servers, so you need a Discord account and must follow Discord's own terms, including their minimum age requirements. What data is stored when you log in is covered by the privacy policy.

Your content

Everything you submit (handwriting images, community challenges, your profile bio, suggestions) stays yours. You keep the copyright to your own work.

By submitting, you agree to publish your work under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, the same license as the site's own content. Anyone may share and adapt it, as long as they credit you and pass the same license on. Among other things, this is what lets the site:

  • store your content and show it publicly on the website, credited to your Discord username;
  • post and crosspost it to the channels of participating Discord servers;
  • make the technical copies the site needs to work, like gallery thumbnails and the preview images shown when a link is shared.

You can still delete your content from the site (see below), but a CC license can't be revoked from copies that already exist, such as crossposts already made to Discord. Only submit work you made yourself or otherwise have the right to share.

Challenges and lyrics

Challenges quote short excerpts from song lyrics or poems as handwriting practice material, always with attribution and links to the original work. The site is noncommercial and educational, uses only small portions, and is no substitute for the original work, so I consider this fair use. If you author a community challenge, you're still responsible for what you put in it: keep excerpts short and attributed. Rights holders with concerns about a specific excerpt can contact me.

Deleting your content

You can delete your own submissions within a time limit: an on-time submission locks in once its challenge's window ends (galleries, streaks, and the leaderboard are built on them), while late and community challenge submissions can be self-deleted for about a week. A community challenge can be deleted by its author until it has submissions or becomes an official weekly challenge.

If you want something removed that you can no longer delete yourself, just contact me. See also the data removal note in the privacy policy.

Rules

  • Submissions should be your own handwriting of the challenge text, whether physical or on a tablet. No typed text, traced text, or someone else's work.
  • Nothing unlawful, hateful, or harassing, anywhere: submissions, challenges, bios, suggestions.
  • Don't spam or flood the bot, the editor, or the Challenge Wizard, and don't try to work around the site's rate limits.
  • Don't probe, break, or bypass the site's security or moderation.
  • Don't break the rules of the Discord server you submit to.

If content breaks these rules, I may hide or remove it. If an account keeps breaking them, or breaks them badly enough once, I may ban it: a banned account can still browse, but can no longer submit, create or edit challenges, like, or otherwise post to or interact with the site. Creating or using another account to get around a ban isn't allowed, and such accounts will be banned too. This is a small community site, so moderation calls are made with common sense, at my discretion.

The Challenge Wizard

The optional Challenge Wizard formats challenge text automatically. As described in the privacy policy, the text you type is sent to a third-party service as part of the formatting process. The output can contain mistakes, so check the result before publishing.

Publishing a challenge means you're vouching for it as if you had written it by hand: if it quotes something you had no right to share, or otherwise breaks the rules above, "the wizard produced it" isn't a defense, and the same consequences apply, up to and including removal of the challenge and a ban.

The site's content

The site's own written content, meaning guides and pages like this one, is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. Submissions remain © their respective authors, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 as described above, and quoted lyrics and poems remain © their respective rights holders.

No warranty

Tegaki Tuesday is a free hobby project, provided as is. I do my best to keep it running and to keep your content safe, but I can't promise uninterrupted service, and features may change or go away. To the maximum extent permitted by law, I'm not liable for damages arising from your use of the site.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top of this page will be updated. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
